
🤝 Volunteering – Windsor Chess Club
Windsor Chess Club is powered by volunteers.
Parents, students, chess fans, seniors and community members all welcome to help us run tournaments, lessons, and programs. Volunteer hours will be tracked, and youth will be recognized for their contributions at the end of the year. References can be provided, if needed

You don’t have to be a strong chess player to help — just friendly, reliable, and willing to learn.
🧩 Volunteer Roles
You can choose one or more roles depending on your interests and availability.
♟️ Tournament Helpers/Intern Arbiter
- We offer a special Intern Arbiter Program for those interested in pursuing National Arbiter certification, open to high school students/university students/school teachers.
- Set up boards, pieces, and clocks and clean-up after tournaments
- Help with registration/check-in
- Guide players to the right boards and sections
- Post pairings and results on the wall.
- Tournament assistance- Scoring & assisting Tournament Director.
- Assist with medals and awards ceremonies
🏫 School Program Assistants
- Help supervise school chess clubs
- Set up and take down boards
- Support the instructor
- Encourage good behaviour and fair play
👨👩👧👦 Event & Club Volunteers
- Welcome new players and families
- Answer basic questions about club activities
- Help organize casual games and mini-events
- Assist with snacks / refreshment tables (when offered)
🎁 What Volunteers Receive
- Volunteer hours/Community hours will be tracked/signed for high school students
- A friendly, supportive team environment
- Orientation and simple training for your role
- Youth will be recognized for their contributions at the end of the year
- The satisfaction of helping children and families learn and enjoy chess
- Reference letters can be provided, if needed
✅ Requirements
To keep our programs safe and well-organized:
- Volunteers must be respectful, reliable, and on time
- Youth volunteers may need parent/guardian consent
Details will be provided during the application process.
📅 Time Commitment
We are flexible — you can volunteer:
- At one event
- Once a month
- Regularly during club nights or school programs
